Marc Archer, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. His inspiration grew from his maternal grandmother and aunt, both of whom were in the medical field.
In 2010, he began work as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) on the Alzheimer’s unit at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. He received his bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) in 2014 from Graceland University. Archer started off as a registered nurse (RN) and later decided to pursue an advanced degree. “I realized while I was working as a nurse that I wanted to do more. I wanted to be more involved with patient care,” Archer said. He earned his master’s degree in nursing (MSN) in 2017 from Graceland University.
While pursuing his graduate degree, he completed clinicals at Lawson Family Practice with Sidney Cantrell, DO, and realized a rural clinic was where he wanted to be. “I really enjoyed the environment and getting to know the people. It was just personal. Unlike a big city clinic, you actually get to know the people,” Archer said.
The distribution of physicians has an impact on the health of rural residents. According to National Rural Health Association (NRHA), the patient-to-primary care physician ratio in rural communities is only 39 physicians per 100,000 people, compared with 53 physicians per 100,000 in urban areas.
Archer has a passion for serving the underserved, rural population. He’s also familiar with the rural lifestyle. Originally from Liberty, he now lives in Ray County with his fiancé and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys spending time on the farm with his family.
Archer practices primarily at the Live Well Community Health Center in Waverly. However, patients may also see him at any of the other clinics. Well child visits, physicals, and primary care exams are among the services Archer provides. “I want to do everything I can to make sure patients receive the care they need. It’s rewarding being involved in the patient’s care, and getting to know them,” he said.
Live Well Community Health Center, which has clinics in Buckner, Carrollton, Concordia and Waverly, is owned and operated by the Health Care Collaborative (HCC) of Rural Missouri. The Live Well Centers accept Medicaid, Medicare, and all major insurance plans. A sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify.
