accessHealth, a free publication, reaches approximately 20,000 homes and businesses in Lafayette, Saline and Carroll counties. Plans are currently underway to expand into Ray and Johnson counties in Missouri.
Publications are sent via U.S. Postal mail. There are no subscription fees.
The goal of the publication is three-fold:
Provide information about efforts in West Central Missouri to improve health and wellness
Help area providers to increase awareness about health information technology and how it will be applied to patient care
Keep consumers informed about the Affordable Care Act and other health care legislation
accessHealth is the only publication of its kind in West Central Missouri. It is published by Lexington-based Grace Advertising & Consulting, Inc. The agency’s client base is made up of mostly non-profit organizations with a central focus on health care and behavioral health services.
About rural readership:
Unlike mainstream newspaper readership, community-based publications are not experiencing the same rate of decline. On the contrary, a 2011 Pew Internet study reveals how rural residents learn about their local community:
50% of residents receive information from their community-based newspaper and 40% receive information from their community-based newspaper and/or its companion web site
47% reported getting local news from the Internet
41% get local news from a social networking site
73% of community newspaper readers share their paper with friends, family & colleagues
On average, readers spend 41.8 minutes reading an issue of the community newspaper
Nearly 1/3 of readers keep their paper for more than 6 days, enabling them to revisit a story or an advertisement at their leisure
55% of adults say the get their local information weekly or more often via word of mouth, from family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Adults ages 18-29 or more likely to report this.
